The third race of the Powerboat P1 SuperStock USA series will make its Pinellas County debut Saturday and Sunday, June 17-18 off St. Pete Beach.
The event, presented by Mercury Racing and Powerboat P1 AquaX racing, features a series of SuperStock and high-powered jet ski races beginning at 10 a.m. both days. Admission is free.
The best viewing for spectators will be on the beach next to the Postcard Inn at 6300 Gulf Blvd., as well as on the water in the spectator zone.
Over 100 AquaX pro and amateur racers from around the world will compete on personal watercraft at speeds of more than 70 mph. In addition, a total of nine SuperStock boats are expected to compete.
Racers will compete on a 2-mile oval course about 1,000 feet off the beach, which will extend about 1 ½ miles westward.
The P1 boats are all 28-foot 2-step V-hulls powered by Mercury 300XS V-6 outboards. The jetski races, which will launch from the beach, will feature competition in 200-, 250- and 300-hp divisions.
“We at Visit St. Pete Clearwater are thrilled to support P1 Powerboat USA in hosting its inaugural race in St. Pete Beach and look forward to the fun and excitement of the event as well as the opportunity to showcase one of our many world class beaches,” said Tim Ramsberger, chief operating officer of Visit St. Petersburg/Clearwater. “This type of event, especially ones produced by respected organizations such as P1 Powerboat USA, are good for helping promote our destination and brand.”
